Maybe the pic is photoshopped, Susie – the middle finger is suspiciously straight. However, why, like you, would I not be surprised if it isn't faked?
.
I received it from an American friend, married to an Indonesian, who now has an M.A in Urban Studies – his subject being Jakarta. He wrote: "The photo is very charged I think. So, sad too."
.
We can but agree.
It says more about the person who made it, and what they're expecting of our reactions.
If it is real then you have to say it's just a little girl who doesn't know better, like the anak kampung who try to connect with you via a big smiley "Eff you mister!"
It actually never occurred to me that the photo was photo-shopped. I didn't think twice that such a thing actually did not happen. After looking at it again I suppose the photo is actually faked but I do not have the expertise to actually prove it beyond a doubt. The photo was not sourced so maybe that indicates a bad provenance. the odd thing is, if it is not faked, that would not surprise me a whit.
.
In any event, as they say, a photo is worth a thousand words…
Source of pic unknown, but probably in Jakarta.

It's been fiddled with that has…
Yes, db, but isn't it sad that we can accept that it might not have been?

I tracked down the photo source. It appears it is not faked at all. It's real.
